Howard Maxson

 Pastor

I have been following Christ since 1973 and was called by Christ to serve Him in 1975. I was raised in Alexandria Bay, NY. Our home was essentially non-Christian. Although taken to church by my mother, I don’t remember ever hearing the gospel and became a convinced atheist by the time I entered high school.

In 1973, while enrolled at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY I was confronted by the idea that man has a soul and an accompanying spiritual life by my yoga teacher. At the same time I was confronted with the claims of the Gospel of Christ by a fellow student in the same school. He challenged me to "open my mind" to God, which I did, resulting in my conversion.

I spent about 18 months, reading the Bible, learning about God and fellowshipping with other Christian friends from time to time. In 1975, while working in a grocery store in Alex Bay I was once again confronted with the need to find a church home for my soul by the pastor of the local Baptist church in town. Soon after becoming involved with the Church I felt the call of God in my heart to serve Him in ministry.

Since 1975 I have been actively involved vocationally and non-vocationally in the ministry of the Gospel. I enrolled in the Theology Program at Baptist Bible Institute, Graceville, FL in 1977. Not only did I gain my degree in Biblical Studies there, I also found the wife of my youth, Brenda, and we had our first child there. After graduating in 1980 I returned to Alex Bay Baptist Church and founded and pastored a Southern Baptist church plant in Brier Hill, NY. I became involved in the Evangelism and Missions Committees of our local Association as well as at the Baptist Convention of New York State level.

In 1990 I moved to the Capital District area of NY and began serving as a Deacon and Trustee of a Reformed Baptist Church while working in secular employment. Although I was not in Pastoral Ministry during that time, I continued preaching, teaching and serving in the area of evangelism. In 2005 my wife and I got involved in motorcycle ministry through the Christian Motorcyclists Association. In 2011 the Lord called me to Pastor at Fowler Baptist Church in Fowler, NY.

Brenda and I have been married for 35 years. We have three married children and eight wonderful grandchildren, two dogs and still enjoy riding our motorcycle.

I love Christ and like the Apostle Paul I glory in the Cross and its relevance to today's society. (I Cor. 9:19-23).
